# Sharing your scorecard

> From FilmScorecard Help: https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/sharing-your-scorecard

Your scorecard is private, and stays private. What you can share is a **card** —
one image built from your result, in a look and shape you choose — either as a
saved picture or as a public link. This page covers the Share button, the card
and every choice on it, saving the image, the public link and what anyone who
opens it sees, and turning the link off.

**A card is about one category.** The category tab you have open when you press
Share is the category the card is built from: its score, its rank, its judges'
lines. Everything below follows from that.

**The scorecard itself never leaves your page.** The card carries your film, your
festival and your score — and, only if you have unlocked that category and only
if you choose to add them, one of your ranks and up to two lines quoted from
what the judges wrote. Nobody holding the card or the link can reach your
scorecard, the rest of your judges' answers, or the page that asks for your
access code.

## The Share button

**Share** sits in the bar across the top of your scorecard, beside the
**Preview** or **Permanent access** pill. On a phone that pill is left out, and
when the bar's buttons do not fit beside the FilmScorecard logo they move to a
second row under it. It is there whether or not you have
unlocked; it is **not** on the page that asks for your code — nothing about
sharing exists until you have proved the scorecard is yours — and it is not there
for a member of the festival's staff reading your page.

**Share your score**, on the **Your film earned this. Show it off.** card under
your score, opens the same panel. On a phone that card is a small tile headed
**Show it off** — see
[Finishing your press kit and sharing your score](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-scorecard.md#finishing-your-press-kit-and-sharing-your-score).

Pressing either opens the share panel: your card on the left, exactly as it will be
shared, and the choices on the right. On a narrower window the choices move below
the card; on a phone the whole panel rises from the bottom of the screen. Press
**Escape**, the ✕, or anywhere outside it to close it — nothing is shared by
closing.

**A category the festival removed from your submission cannot be shared.** If
you had bought it, it stays on your page under "*Category* (removed)" — see
[If a category was removed from your submission](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-scorecard.md#if-a-category-was-removed-from-your-submission)
— but no card can be built from it, and when it is the only thing left on your
page there is no Share button at all.

## Which category the card is about

**The tab you had open decides it**, and it decides everything in the panel: the
score printed on the card, the category named on it, whether the rank and quote
controls exist at all, which ranks you are offered, and which lines you can
quote.

- **On a submission judged in one category** there is nothing to choose; the card
  is about that one.
- **To make a card for a different category**, close the panel, press that
category's tab, and press Share again.
- **Each press of Copy link re-points your one public link** at whatever the
panel is showing — including which category. There is one link per submission,
not one per category. See [Copy link](#copy-link--the-public-page).

## What is always on the card

Every card carries, whatever you pick:

- **the festival's name** and the season;
- **your film's title** and **the category the panel is scoped to**;
- its **running time** (or, for a screenplay, its page count), and a "Directed by
  …" line when the festival's record carries one;
- **that category's score**, with `/100` — or **No scores**, with nothing after
it, on a category that has no score to show (see
  [When a category reads "No scores"](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-scorecard.md#when-a-category-reads-no-scores));
- the words **Verified scorecard** and FilmScorecard.com.

**Your score is on every card, locked or unlocked.** If you would rather not show
the number, the card is not the tool — there is no version of it without the
score.

## Card style

| Style | What it looks like |
| --- | --- |
| **Paper** | Light — white field, dark text. |
| **Ink** | Dark — near-black field, light text. |
| **Still** | A frame from your press-kit poster across part of the card, with the festival and your score in plates over it. |

**Still is only offered when the festival has a poster on file for your
submission.** Most imported submissions have none, so most scorecards offer two
styles. If a poster is removed after you have shared a Still card, the public card
quietly becomes Paper — it never breaks.

## Format

| Format | Size | Made for |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Square** (1:1) | 1080 × 1080 | Feed posts. |
| **Story** (9:16) | 1080 × 1920 | Stories and vertical video covers. |
| **Wide** (16:9) | 1920 × 1080 | Anywhere a landscape image fits. |
| **Link** (preview) | 1200 × 630 | How the public link unfurls when pasted. |

Choosing **Link** shows the card inside a mock-up of the pasted link — the image,
then the address, your film's name with the festival's, and "Verified scorecard"
with the season. That is what X and LinkedIn build when somebody pastes your
link; see [the public link](#copy-link--the-public-page) below.

The panel's own last line says which route each network takes: Instagram and
TikTok need the saved image; X and LinkedIn take the link and build the preview
themselves.

## Your rank and lines from the notes

These two belong to a category you have unlocked. Unlock the category you are
reading and both blocks appear in the panel, with the first released rank
already picked, and one line too — see
[Which line is picked to begin with](#which-line-is-picked-to-begin-with).

### Which rank

A card carries **one rank, or none**, and the **Include** block lists the ones
this category can offer:

- **Season rank** — your place in the whole season, among films (or among
screenplays). It is not on the scorecard page itself; this is where it is
  offered.
- **The category's own rank** — your place in the category the panel is scoped
  to.

Only ranks the festival has released can go on a card (see
[Your ranks](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-scorecard.md#your-ranks) for how a rank is released):

- **With one released rank**, it is a single row you tick or untick — **ticked by
default**. Untick it and the card carries no rank.
- **With both released**, each is a radio with its figure beside it (`2 of 31`),
followed by a **No rank** choice. The panel opens on the first of them. Choosing
a rank puts it on the card at once; only one is ever on it.
- **A rank the festival has not released yet is still listed**, greyed, with a
padlock and the words **Not released yet** — no number, and nothing to press. It
is there so you know one is coming, and it joins the choices above on its own
  once the festival releases it.
- **Another category's rank is not offered here.** Switch to that category's tab
  and open the panel again.
- **With nothing released yet**, the block shows only those greyed rows, and the
card carries no rank until one arrives.

The block ends with the reminder that "Your score, film and festival are always
on the card."

On the card, the chosen rank is the figure your scorecard shows — **44** of 132 —
dressed by where you placed, and labelled by which pool it is:

| Your place | Season rank | Category rank |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1st | Gold laurels, **Top rated** | Gold laurels, **Top rated · Documentary** |
| 2nd | Silver laurels, **Ranked** | Silver laurels, **Ranked · Documentary** |
| 3rd | Bronze laurels, **Ranked** | Bronze laurels, **Ranked · Documentary** |
| 4th–10th | Green laurels, **Top ten** | Green laurels, **Top ten · Documentary** |
| 11th onward | The plain figure, labelled **Season rank** | The plain figure, labelled with the category's name |

**A category rank always names its category on the card**, so that a film placed
first in Documentary reads "Top rated · Documentary" and cannot be mistaken for
first in the whole season.

### Lines from the notes

**Everything your judges wrote for this category that can be quoted is
listed**, and you can put **up to two lines** on the card. That is two kinds of
writing:

- **The judges' written notes** — strengths and opportunities alike, listed as
"Judge 2, strengths" and "Judge 2, opportunities".
- **The judges' written answers to the festival's own questions** — each
judge's answer to each written-answer question the festival shows on your
scorecard, listed with its question: "Judge 2, What stayed with you after
the credits?". A judge who answered three such questions gives three rows.

The counter reads **0 of 2**, **1 of 2**, **2 of 2**; at two, the remaining rows
grey out until you unpick one, and **Clear lines** takes both off at once. The
two can be any mix of notes and answers.

- **The picker tells you who wrote what** — "Judge 2, strengths" — **but the card
never does.** On the card every quote is signed **Festival judge** and
nothing more: no name, not the judge's number, and not whether it was a
strength, an opportunity or the answer to a question.
- **Your own questions are not here.** Your judges' answers to the questions
*you* asked them are on your scorecard, under **You asked**, and cannot be
  quoted on a card.
- **Only written answers can be quoted.** A 1-to-10 score, a Yes or No, and a
choice from a list are not lines, and are not offered.
- **Notes from your other categories are not here**, even ones you have
unlocked. A card quotes the category it is about.
- **A category with nothing written offers nothing here.** Nothing is missing;
there is nothing to pick from.

#### Which line is picked to begin with

When the panel opens on an unlocked category, it picks **one line for you**:

1. **The first strengths line**, if any judge wrote one.
2. Otherwise, **nothing** — if the judges' notes are all opportunities, the
panel does not put a criticism on your card for you.
3. Otherwise — the festival's scorecard collects no notes at all — **the first
written answer**, so that scorecard's card starts with a quote too.

Untick it, or pick another, as you like.

## A locked category can still make a card

Open the panel on a category you have not unlocked and the card carries **the
score, your film and your festival, and nothing else**. In place of the two
blocks above:

> **COMES WITH THE FULL SCORECARD**
> 🔒 Season rank
> 🔒 Lines from the judges' notes
>
> Both go on this card as soon as you unlock. Your film, festival and score are
> on it either way.
>
> **Unlock for $52.48**

**That button is not the per-category one.** Unlike the button on the page
itself, the panel's unlock buys **every** locked category on your submission in a
single payment, and the figure it names is that whole total — the first category
at full price and each one after it at 25% off. On a season that carries no
charge it reads **Free Unlock** and unlocks the submission where you stand.

**It is the real thing**: at a price it takes you to Stripe exactly as the page's
own button does, and when you come back the panel's two blocks are there. See
[Paying for your scorecard](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/paying-for-your-scorecard.md).

**The button is drawn even when it cannot succeed**, which the purchase block on
the page is careful not to do. If your festival has not finished setting up
payments, or a purchase was refunded, pressing it answers with a sentence instead
of going anywhere:

| What the panel says | What it means |
| --- | --- |
| This festival is not set up to accept payments yet. Check back soon. | The festival cannot be paid yet, so nothing can be bought. Nothing was charged. |
| This scorecard was unlocked and then refunded, so it is locked again. Contact the festival if that is not right. | A purchase on this submission was refunded in full, and a refunded category can never be bought again. |
| We could not start checkout. Nothing has been charged. Try again in a moment. | Something went wrong on the way to Stripe. Press it again. |

**The basic card is all a locked category can ever share.** That is enforced when
the card is drawn, not by hiding buttons — there is no way to put a rank or a
quoted line on a card for a category that is not unlocked, and a public link made
from one carries the score only.

## Saving the image

The panel's footer shows the size of what you are about to get — `1080 × 1080
PNG` — and a **Save image** button.

1. Press **Save image**.
2. The button reads **Preparing** for a few seconds while the image is drawn.
3. The file lands in your downloads, named after your film, and the footer
   confirms it: "Saved 1080 × 1080 PNG, 14:32".

If it fails you get **"Could not render the image. Nothing was downloaded."** and
the button reads **Try again**. Changing anything — style, format, rank, lines —
puts the footer back to the start: what you saved no longer matches what you see.

**Saving an image makes nothing public.** The file is on your machine and nowhere
else; only the two buttons below create a link. The festival's record of your
submission does show that you saved a card, with its style and size — never the
image itself.

## Copy link — the public page

**Nothing public exists until you press Copy link** (or **Share…** on a phone).
The first press creates your card's public address and puts it on your clipboard,
and the button shows a green **Link copied** tick for a moment. The address is
ours, ending in a run of random characters — it cannot be guessed, and it cannot
be worked out from your scorecard's address (or the reverse).

Anyone who opens it sees **the card and nothing else**: your chosen style and
format, centered on a plain page. No code is asked for, nothing on the page is
clickable, and there is no way from there to your scorecard.

- **There is one link for your submission**, and it is the same every time you
copy it. Post it once, copy it again next week — one address, until you turn it
  off.
- **Each press of Copy link updates the public card** to whatever the panel shows
at that moment — the style, the format, the rank, the quoted lines **and which
category**. Copying from a different tab re-points the same link at that
category; it does not make a second one. Changing choices in the panel changes
nothing public until you press Copy link again.
- **A link you saved before this page could be scoped by category** — and a
link from a submission judged in one category — shows your best-scoring category,
as it always did, until you save from a tab.
- **Pasted on X or LinkedIn, the link unfurls** into the Link-preview image, your
film's name with the festival's, and "Verified scorecard" with the season. **Your
score is never in the unfurl's text** — it is in the image only, so nothing those
platforms keep as text ever holds your number.

**If the festival takes a rank back while your panel is open**, a Copy link with
that rank still picked is refused — "The link could not be created. Try again." —
because a card may not be made with a rank that is no longer released. Close and
reopen the panel: the rank is now a greyed row, and the link goes through with
another rank or none.

## On a phone

Under a phone-width screen the panel becomes a bottom sheet, and **Share…** takes
Save image's place. Share… creates the same public link and hands it to your
phone's own share sheet — messages, socials, wherever you send it. If your browser
has no share sheet of its own, the button saves the image instead. **Copy link
works the same at every size.**

## The card stays current

A card is drawn fresh every time it is viewed or saved, from your scorecard as it
stands **now** — it is not a snapshot of the day you shared it:

- **A judge's scorecard approved after you shared** can shift your score and your
rank, and the public card shifts with them on its next view. It is the same set
  of results your scorecard reads.
- **A rank the festival takes back drops off the card.** If the festival holds a
rank it had released, a public card carrying that rank shows no rank at all on
its next view — score, film and festival only — until it is released again.
- **If an unlock is ever refunded**, whatever it was carrying goes with it: a card
built on a refunded category's rank or notes loses them on its next view and
falls back to the basic version — score, film and festival only.
- **A quoted line that no longer exists simply drops off the card.** Nothing
breaks; the card just carries less. That includes a written answer whose
question the festival has since deleted, or taken off your scorecard, and an
answer the festival has emptied. **A line the festival has reworded shows its
new wording** — the card always quotes what your scorecard says today.
- **If the category a link names is removed from your submission**, the link keeps
working and falls back to your best-scoring category. Saving again from a tab
  re-points it.

## Turning it off

While your link is live, the panel shows a quiet **Link is live** row with a
**Turn off** button.

1. Press **Turn off**.
2. The address answers "page not found" for everyone, immediately — including the
previews platforms have already built from it.

**A dead link stays dead.** If you share again afterwards, you get a **new
address**; the old one never comes back to life. And there is no clock on any of
this — a link you put in a bio stays live until you turn it off, or until the
submission itself is removed.

**The festival's record of your submission shows when you create a link and
when you turn it off.** Nobody who opens the link is counted.

## What sharing never reveals

- **Your judges.** No name, no number — every quoted line says **Festival judge**
and where the line came from, and nothing else.
- **The scorecard.** No answers, no averages, no reviews, and no notes beyond the
  lines you picked.
- **A category you have not unlocked.** Its score is on a card made from it;
neither its rank nor any line its judges wrote can reach one.
- **A category removed from your submission.** Even one you bought, which stays
on your scorecard, can never be put on a card.
- **Your other categories.** A card is about one of them at a time.
- **Any other submission.** Your rank is a number worked out for you; no other
  film is on the card.
- **A rank the festival has not released.** It cannot be chosen, a link cannot be
made with it, and a public card whose rank is later taken back is drawn without
  one.
- **Your access code, your email address, or your scorecard's address.** The
public link and your scorecard's link are different addresses, and neither can be
  turned into the other.
- **Anything about paying.** Whether you bought your unlock, were given it or
never unlocked at all is on no card and in no link.
- **How you rated the scorecard.** Your answers to **Rate this scorecard** are
on no card and in no link — see
  [Rating your scorecard](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-scorecard.md#rating-your-scorecard).
