# Stats

> From FilmScorecard Help: https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/stats

**Stats** is a tab of each project in [Your projects](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-projects.md), and
part of [Creator Pro](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/creator-pro.md). It shows who your public page reaches
and what they do there: page views, visitors, link clicks, video plays and
messages, which links were pressed, and where visitors came from, for the last
7 days, the last 30 days or since you first published. This guide covers the
period, each figure and list, naming where visitors came from, and what is not
counted.

The tab sits in the project's sidebar between **Messages** and **Details**.

**Nobody is named.** Every figure is a count, and a source is a website's name
or a word of your own. Nothing in Stats tells you who a visitor was. See
[How visitors are counted](#how-visitors-are-counted).

## Without Pro

On a project without Pro, **Stats** in the sidebar carries an indigo **Pro**
pill, and the tab is a single card:

> **See who your page reaches**
>
> Page views, visitors, link clicks, video plays, messages and where your
> visitors came from, for the last 7 days, the last 30 days or since you
> published.

with **Get Pro** and "$4.99 a month or $39.99 a year for this page". **Get
Pro** opens the Get Pro dialog; see [Creator Pro](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/creator-pro.md).

**Your page is counted with or without Pro.** Every public page is counted, so
when you get Pro, Stats already has your page's history: views, link clicks
and video plays as far back as your page has counted them, and visitors and
where they came from since Pro was introduced on FilmScorecard. When Pro ends,
the tab goes back to the card, counting carries on, and it all shows again if
you take Pro again.

**The Overview stays free.** Your project's **Overview** keeps showing views,
video plays and link clicks for the last 30 days in its **Page** card, with or
without Pro. See [Your projects](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-projects.md#the-page-card).

## Choosing a period

The **Period** control, beside the heading, has three choices:

| The period | It covers |
| --- | --- |
| **Last 7 days** | Today and the six days before it. |
| **Last 30 days** | Today and the 29 days before it: the same 30 days as the Overview's Page card, so the two agree. Stats opens on this one. |
| **Since published** | From the day you first published the page to today, even if you have made it private or published again since. |

The line under the heading gives the dates: "Thu 17 Sep 2026 to Thu 15 Oct
2026.", or "Since you published on Mon 5 Oct 2026."

- **Days run from midnight to midnight UTC**, not in your own time zone, so a
day's figures can start in your evening or your morning.
- **Today is counted so far**, and grows as the day goes on.
- **A period with nothing in it reads 0**, and its two lists show only their
  headings.

## The figures

| The figure | What it counts |
| --- | --- |
| **Page views** | Every load of your public page. A visitor who reloads it counts again. |
| **Visitors** | People who loaded the page, each counted once a day however often they came back that day. Somebody who comes on three different days counts three times in a longer period. See [How visitors are counted](#how-visitors-are-counted). |
| **Link clicks** | Every press of a **Link** block's button. Social links, **Tickets**, **Read the review** and places to watch are not counted. |
| **Video plays** | A visitor pressing play on a Video block, once per Video block per visit. Shown only while your published page has a Video block showing. |
| **Messages** | Messages sent through your page's contact form in the period, whatever their status. See [Messages](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/messages.md). |

Figures over 999 are grouped with commas, such as **1,204**.

## Clicks by link

The **Clicks by link** card has one row per Link button on your published
page, by its label, in the order they sit on the page, each with its number of
clicks and a bar showing its share of all the clicks in the list. A link nobody
pressed shows **0**.

- **Links no longer on your page** is the last row, when there is one: clicks
in the period on Link buttons that are no longer on your published page,
because you removed or hid them since, and any older click that cannot be
matched to one link. With it, the rows add up to the **Link clicks** figure.
- **A link's clicks follow the button, not its words.** Renaming a link keeps
  its clicks with it.
- **Only published links are listed.** A Link block still waiting in your draft
  appears once you publish.
- **With no clicks in the period**, the card shows only its heading.

## Where visitors came from

The **Where visitors came from** card lists the sources of the period's
visitors, most first, each with how many visitors came from it and a bar
showing its share of the **Visitors** figure. The top 8 are named, and the rest
are added together as **Other**.

**Each visitor counts once a day**, under where they came from on their first
visit that day, so the list adds up to the **Visitors** figure.

A source is named in this order:

1. **A word of your own**, when the address the visitor opened carried one. See
   [Naming a source yourself](#naming-a-source-yourself).
2. **The website they came from.** These are shown by name: Instagram,
Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Threads, Bluesky, TikTok, Reddit, YouTube, Vimeo,
Letterboxd, IMDb, FilmFreeway, Linktree, Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo. Any
other website shows as its address without `www.`, such as
   `harbourshorts.org`.
3. **Direct or app**, when there is nothing to go on: the address was typed in
or opened from a bookmark, the visitor came from an app or email program that
does not say where a link was opened, or they came from FilmScorecard itself.

Only the website's name is kept, never the page or the link the visitor came
from.

### Naming a source yourself

Add `?ref=` and a word of your own to your page's address when you share it,
and visitors who open that link are counted under that word:

```
https://filmscorecard.com/p/salt-flats?ref=newsletter
```

The page opens as usual. In Stats, those visitors show as **newsletter**.

- **The word** is letters, digits, dots, hyphens and underscores, up to 40
characters. Capitals are ignored: `?ref=Newsletter` shows as **newsletter**.
A word with anything else in it, such as a space, is ignored, and the visitor
is counted by the website they came from.
- **Your word beats the website.** A `?ref=newsletter` link posted on Instagram
  counts as **newsletter**, not Instagram.
- **A word that names a source above shows that name**: `?ref=instagram` shows
as **Instagram**, and `?ref=linktr.ee` as **Linktree**.
- **`?utm_source=` works the same way**, for links made by tools that add it.
When an address has both, the one that comes first counts.

## How visitors are counted

**No cookie, and nothing is put on the visitor's device.** To count each
visitor once a day, the page combines the visitor's IP address and browser with
a random value that is replaced every day, and keeps only the scrambled
result, for that day only. No IP address is stored.

**It is a close count, not an exact one.** One person on a phone and on a
laptop counts as two visitors, and two people sharing a network with the same
browser can count as one.

## What is not counted

- **You, while you are signed in**: your visits to your public address, **View
as visitor** and the Page tab's preview.
- **FilmScorecard's own staff**, while signed in.
- **Festival people, while signed in**: anybody who is a member, staff or judge
of an organization holding one of this project's festival entries. Signed out,
they are counted like anybody else.
- **Anything while the page is not public**, or while it is taken down.

**Search engines and other automated visitors** that open a page the way a
browser does are counted like anybody else.

## Before you publish

Until your page has been published once, the tab reads "Your page is not
published yet. Stats start when you publish it." with **Go to Page**. See
[Making your page public](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/public-page.md#making-your-page-public).

## If the tab does not load

The tab reads **Something went wrong** — "This tab didn't load." — with **Try
again**. The rest of the project works as usual; press **Try again**, or come
back to the tab later.

## What Stats does not do yet

- **No day-by-day view.** Each figure is one total for the period.
- **Three periods only**: no dates of your own.
- **Nothing about who visited**: no names, places or devices.
- **No count of social links, Tickets, Read the review or places to watch.**
- **No download** of the figures.
