# Your first project

> From FilmScorecard Help: https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-first-project

The first time you sign in with festival entries on your address, a welcome
screen puts your film together from them. Nothing is saved until you press
**Open**.

It works the same way for a screenplay. This guide covers when the screen
appears, what it shows, choosing which of your other entries join the project,
pressing **Open**, and what happens to entries that arrive afterwards.

## When you see it

**The welcome screen appears while you own no project and at least one
festival entry is waiting for you.** An entry is waiting for you when:

- a festival has the address you log in with on it; or
- you have just pressed **Save to your account** for it, or **Keep it** on its
scorecard, using its access code. See
[Saving a submission to your account](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/saving-a-submission-to-your-account.md)
  and [Your scorecard](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-scorecard.md).

**An account that is only a filmmaker sees it when it logs in**, because
logging in opens your projects, and your projects open the welcome screen
until you have one. If you also run or judge festivals, logging in takes you to
your usual screen instead, and the **Your projects** row is not in your menus
until you own a project: go to the address `/projects` to reach the welcome
screen.

- **With no entries waiting**, you see the **Add your first project** block
instead. See [With no projects yet](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-projects.md#with-no-projects-yet).
- **Once you own a project, it never appears again.** Its address takes you to
  your projects.
- **Signed out**, its address takes you to the log-in screen first, and brings
you back once you are in.

## Which entry it starts from

**Your newest entry.** If you arrived from **Save to your account** or **Keep
it**, it starts from that entry instead. An address naming an entry that is not
waiting for you simply starts from your newest one.

## What the screen shows

A plain bar across the top carries the FilmScorecard mark and "Signed in as"
with the address you log in with. There is no menu on this screen. Under it, one
card:

- **YOUR ACCOUNT IS READY**, and the headline "We set up *title* from your
  entry", using the title the festival has;
- "This came from what you sent *festival*. Check it and open the project. You
can change any of it later, and each festival keeps the copy it received."

### The project block

The title, then **Film** or **Screenplay** with its length, then seven rows.
Each row has a green tick and what the entry holds, or an empty circle and
"Not in this entry, add it later":

| Row | What a ticked row shows |
| --- | --- |
| **Category** | The categories you entered. |
| **Runtime** (**Length** for a screenplay) | The runtime, like `12:47`, or the page count, like "112 pages". |
| **Director** | The director's name. |
| **Synopsis** | How long it is, like "86 words". |
| **Poster** | "On file". |
| **Scorecard** | When the festival has released your scorecard: "Filed 11 Aug 2026, 3 judges". Until then the row reads "Not released yet". |
| **Trailer** | "On file". |

**A missing row never stops you.** Anything the entry does not have, you add
later on the project's **Details** tab. See
[Your project's details](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/project-details.md).

**The poster itself is not shown on this screen**, even when the Poster row
reads "On file". It is copied to your project when you press **Open**, and you
see it there.

## Your other entries

Under **Also sent from** *your address* is every other entry waiting for you,
newest first. With no other entries there is no list.

Each card shows the festival, then one line: the season and categories, why it
looks like the same work (when it does), and the scorecard or the entry's
status. For example: "2026 Season, Short Film. Same title and runtime. Filed
18 Aug 2026, 3 judges."

On the right, each card says what **Open** will do with it:

- **Joins this project**, when it is ticked;
- **Becomes its own project**, when it is not.

Click a card to tick or untick it.

### Which cards start ticked

| The card says | It starts | Because |
| --- | --- | --- |
| "Same title and runtime" ("Same title and length" for a screenplay) | Ticked | Same title, and runtimes within a minute of each other, or page counts within 5. |
| "Same title" | Ticked | Same title, but one of the two has no runtime or page count to compare. |
| "Same title, runtime 14:10" ("Same title, 112 pages" for a screenplay) | Unticked | Same title, but the lengths are too far apart. The length shown is this entry's own. |
| Nothing | Unticked | It is a different film. |

**"Same title" ignores capitals, accents, punctuation and spacing.** A film
never matches a screenplay, whatever its title.

### Ticking several at once

Above the list:

- **Select all** ticks every card. When every card is already ticked, it
  unticks them all.
- **Clear** unticks every card. It only appears once something is ticked.
- **"2 of 3"** counts the ticked cards.

## Opening the project

1. Check the project block.
2. Tick the entries that are the same film, and untick any that are not.
3. Press **Open** *title*. The button greys out while it works.

**Open does everything at once:**

- it makes the project from the entry at the top of the screen, with that
  entry's title and format;
- every ticked entry joins it;
- every unticked entry becomes a project of its own. Unticked entries that are
the same film as each other share one project.

You land on the new project's Overview. Any other projects it made are in the
project switcher. See [Your projects](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-projects.md).

**Nothing is saved before you press Open.** Leaving the screen leaves nothing
behind, and you see it again next time. Neither the screen nor **Open** sends
any email.

### If something changed while you were looking

If a new entry arrived, or one of these entries was saved to an account
somewhere else, **Open** saves nothing and shows:

> Something changed while you were here. Check the list and open again.

The list is read again. Your ticks stay on the entries that are still there,
and a new entry starts ticked or unticked by the table above. Check the list
and press **Open** again.

## Entries that arrive later

**Once you own a project, entries with your address are saved to your account
by themselves**: the next time you open your projects, or when you log in. Each
one joins the project it matches, by the same rule as the welcome screen,
checked against the project and every entry already in it. When more than one
project matches, the oldest wins. When none does, the entry becomes a new
project of its own.

**Each one is announced in Updates**, on that project's Overview and in the
bell:

> Your *festival* *season* entry joined *project*.

with **Move** beside it, which puts the entry in another project if the match
was wrong. See [Updates](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-projects.md#updates) and
[The bell](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-notifications.md).

**Entries sent with a different address** do not arrive by themselves. Add each
one to a project with the access code from the festival's email: see
[Your festival entries](https://www.filmscorecard.com/help/your-festival-entries.md).
