An offer from a festival
A festival you entered can email you a promo code for your scorecard — a discount on unlocking it, or sometimes a free unlock — together with a button that opens your submission page (your scorecard is one press from there) and its access code. This page covers that email, using the code, the link and access code it carries, and how to stop one festival's offers.
You do not need an account for any of it. The email carries everything, exactly as your results email did.
A promo code can also arrive inside your results email, when the festival chooses one as it releases its scorecards. That is a different message — see Your scorecard — and the code is used the same way.
Why you got it
The festival's own team sent it, from FilmScorecard, to the address on your submission. It reaches you only when all of these are true:
- The festival has released your scorecard, and it has at least one category you have not unlocked that is for sale.
- The festival's scorecards carry a price, and the festival can be paid.
- You have not unsubscribed from that festival's offers at this address.
- This code has not been emailed to you for this film before. A festival can send the same code to the same film once, and never again — though a different code can come later.
If you entered several films in the seasons the festival chose, they are all in one email, each with its own button and access code.
What it says
- It comes from "The organization's name via FilmScorecard". The address it is sent from is FilmScorecard's; the organization is the festival's. Replying reaches the festival — its own support address — when it has set one.
- The subject and the opening message are the festival's own words.
- Then a block the festival cannot change:
- Your code, in a box —
FALL50, say — and what it does: "50% off your scorecard at checkout.", or "A free scorecard at checkout.", followed by "Valid through its end date." when the code has one. - One block per film: its title, the festival and season, a View your scorecard button, the same link printed under it, and its Access code.
- One line about those access codes — see The link and the access code in it.
- Your code, in a box —
- At the foot: "The organization sent this offer to the address on your submission.", the organization's name and postal address, and Unsubscribe from that organization's offers.
Using the code
- Press View your scorecard for the film you want. It opens your submission page with you already in — no code to type — and Your scorecard is in at the top; press View scorecard there. On another device, open the link and type the access code printed under it.
- Choose the category to unlock. View scorecard opens the scorecard at the promo price, and checkout starts with the code already applied, so there is nothing to type. If the code is not there — you opened the scorecard some other way — open Have a promo code? in the checkout dialog and type it. Capitals do not matter.
- Continue to checkout as usual.
The whole of the checkout — what a code takes off, the least an order can cost, and the sentence you see when a code cannot be used — is in Paying for your scorecard.
The email does not hold the price for you. A festival can pause or end a code, a code can run out of uses, and its end date is the last day it works. After any of those, checkout answers "That code can't be used for this purchase." The email cannot tell you which; ask the festival.
The link and the access code in it
Usually they are the ones you already hold. If an earlier email from the festival — your results email, say — gave you a link that still works, this email carries the same link and the same access code, and gives them 30 more days from this email. Every earlier email from the festival keeps working, and nothing signs you out. The line under the films says so: "The access code opens your scorecard page. It expires in 30 days."
When there was no live link to reuse, every film gets a new one, and the line says that instead: "…It is new, it expires in 30 days, and any code you had before no longer works." If you were reading your scorecard in a browser with the old code, you may be asked for the new one. A link is never kept going past 90 days from when it was made, so a long-lived one is replaced this way too.
- The button and the code open both of your pages for that film — your scorecard and your submission page. See Getting into your scorecard.
- If they stop working, press Email me a new link on the page. That replaces the link and the code in every email you hold, this one included.
- A submission saved to your own FilmScorecard account opens without a code when you are signed in, so you can ignore it.
Stopping a festival's offers
Unsubscribe, at the foot of the email, opens a page headed with the organization's name:
Stop receiving offers from the organization at this address?
Press Confirm, and the page answers:
You're unsubscribed from the organization's offers.
Opening the page changes nothing: only Confirm does, so a mail program that checks links for you cannot unsubscribe you by accident. Your mail app's own unsubscribe button works too — it does the same thing in one press.
What it stops, and what it does not:
- It stops that organization's promo emails to this address, for every festival it runs. That includes a send already under way: if you unsubscribe while the festival is sending, you are skipped from then on.
- It takes the offer out of your results email too. A results email from that organization still reaches you, without a promo code in it.
- It stops nothing else. Your results email, your receipts, new links and access codes, submission-page emails from that festival, and offers from any other festival on FilmScorecard all still reach you.
- It is per address. Another address you entered with is unaffected.
- There is no way to undo it from the page or from the email.
If the page reads "This unsubscribe link isn't valid.", the link was cut short by your mail program or was never a real one; nothing was changed. If it reads "That didn't go through. Try again in a moment.", press Confirm again.
