Your account menu
Your own name sits in the top-right corner of every festival screen. It is a button: choose it and a menu opens, headed by your name and your email address.
Today that menu opens your own account settings, opens Organization settings if your role reaches it, signs you out, and — if you belong to more than one organization — moves you between them. Help and docs opens these guides in a new tab. If you keep films of your own on FilmScorecard, it also takes you to them.
The block in the top bar
- Your name, in bold. If your account has no name on it yet, the block shows your email address instead.
- Your role on the line underneath: "Owner", "Org admin" or "Member", matching your role in the organization you are looking at. Somebody who reaches the screen without an organization role of their own reads "Staff".
- A circle, showing your profile photo if you have uploaded one, and otherwise your initials — the first letter of your first name and the first letter of your last name. If we have no name for you at all, the circle shows a question mark. Uploading or removing the photo is on your account settings.
On a phone or a narrow window the name and the role line are dropped and the circle on its own is the button. The menu it opens is the same either way.
The role line describes the organization you are looking at, not whichever one you own. If you belong to two, it changes as you move between them — see Working in two organizations.
Opening and closing the menu
- Choose the block. The menu opens directly underneath it, lined up with its right-hand edge.
- Choose the block again to close the menu — or press Escape, or click anywhere outside it.
Two things worth knowing:
- Closing the menu puts you back where you were. The keyboard focus returns to the block, so tabbing carries on from there.
- The account menu and the festival switcher are never open together. Opening either one closes the other.
What is in the menu
The menu opens with your name and your email address. Your role is not repeated here — it stays in the top bar. If your account has no email address recorded, the name appears on its own, with no blank line left under it. A long address wraps onto a second line rather than stretching the menu.
For FilmScorecard's own platform administrator, and nobody else, the next row is Platform console, which opens the console's Beta requests — see The platform console. Everyone else has no such row, not even a greyed one.
Below that, for some people, comes the Organizations group — see Switching organizations — and then, for some, Your projects — see Your projects. Then the rest of the rows:
| Row | What it does today |
|---|---|
| Your profile | Opens your account settings on the Profile tab. |
| Notification preferences | Opens the same screen on its Notifications tab. |
| Organization settings | Opens Organization settings. Only owners and org admins have this row at all — for everybody else it is not shown, because the screen behind it is not theirs to open. |
| Help and docs | Opens the help centre in a new tab, so the screen you were on — and anything you have not saved on it — stays where it was. The outward arrow beside it says so. |
| Sign out | Signs you out, after a confirmation. |
View the festival as is no longer listed. It used to sit greyed above Help and docs; it is hidden until there is a preview behind it.
Sign out is the bold row at the bottom.
Switching organizations
A group headed ORGANIZATIONS, between your email address and the rest of the rows, listing every organization you belong to.
- It appears only if you are an active member of two or more. With one, or none, there is no heading and no row. That is most people.
- An organization FilmScorecard has suspended is not listed, and does not count towards the two. See When your organization is suspended.
- The organization you are in now is bold, with a tick. Choosing it just closes the menu.
- Any other row takes you into that organization, landing you on its Overview when you can open two or more of its festivals, or on the one festival you can open.
The full rules — the order the rows are in, where a row lands you, what happens when there is nothing to land on, and what is kept separately per organization — are in Working in two organizations.
Your projects
Your projects sits on its own, directly above Your profile, and opens your own filmmaker's workspace — the films and screenplays you keep on FilmScorecard, and the festival entries saved to your account. It lands on the first of your projects, A to Z. See Your projects.
- It appears only once you own at least one project. With none, there is no row — not even a greyed one.
- Festival entries do not make the row appear by themselves. If you
entered festivals on FilmScorecard with the address you log in with but own
no project yet, nothing is saved to your account until you open the welcome
screen and press Open. With no row to choose, go to the address
/projectsto reach it. See Your first project. - It changes nothing about your festival work. Your projects are yours alone; nobody at your organization sees them, and you still land on your festival screens when you log in.
The judging portal's menu carries the same row, for anybody who also judges.
Signing out
- Open the menu and choose Sign out. The menu closes and a confirmation box appears in the middle of the screen.
- The box is headed Sign out of FilmScorecard? and reads "You are signed in as your address. Anything you have not saved on this screen is lost." If your account has no email address recorded, that first sentence is left out entirely.
- Choose Sign out to confirm. You land on the log-in screen.
- Or choose Stay signed in — or press Escape — to close the box and carry on where you were.
Take the warning literally. Anything on the screen behind the box that you have not saved is lost. The clearest example is the Scorecard Builder, where a scorecard's name, its description and the two written-feedback switches are only written when you press Save changes — see Building a scorecard. Save first, then sign out.
Some smaller behaviours:
- Clicking outside the box does nothing. That is deliberate. The box asks a question, and it closes on Stay signed in or Escape, never by being clicked away.
- Both buttons grey out while the sign-out is running, so a second click cannot start a second sign-out.
- Escape does not cancel a sign-out already under way. Once you have confirmed, the box stays put and Escape does nothing until the log-in screen loads — a sign-out that has already gone to the server cannot be called back, and closing the box would only hide what is happening. Use Stay signed in if you change your mind, and use it before you confirm.
- Signing out is reversible and deletes nothing. Log back in and your festival is exactly as you left it. That is why the confirm button is the ordinary indigo rather than a warning colour.
This row is also the only way to sign out the browser you are using. The list of browsers on your account settings can sign out any other browser, but never this one.
If signing out fails
If the sign-out cannot be completed — the network dropped, say — the box stays open and one amber line appears under the message:
Could not sign out. Try again.
Nothing has happened: you are still signed in, still on the same screen, and nothing has been half-done. Both buttons come back, so choose Sign out again. That line belongs to the attempt and not to the box — close the box and open it again and the line is gone.
One case that is not a failure: if your session has already ended somewhere else — you signed out in another tab, for instance — the menu's Sign out still takes you to the log-in screen with no error. There was simply nothing left to end.
Other ways to sign out
The account menu needs JavaScript. With JavaScript turned off the block in the top bar still appears but does nothing at all.
Sign-out is still reachable in that case, because the older route was left
untouched: the small header showing the email address you are signed in as —
on the You're in. screen at /home, and on the One question left
sign-up screen — carries its own Sign out link, and that link is an
ordinary form that works without JavaScript. It goes straight to the log-in
screen with no confirmation box.
Who sees this menu
Only signed-in members of an organization, and only on the festival and organization screens — Setup Home, Categories and scorecards, the Scorecard Builder and the rest all carry the same top bar, so the menu is in the same place on every one of them. Judges and filmmakers have different screens, with their own menus. See Logging in for what those look like, and Your projects for the filmmaker's.
