Your project's details
The Details tab, last in a project's sidebar, holds the facts about your film or screenplay: its title, length, year, genre, country, language, logline, synopsis, poster, trailer link and credits. This guide covers every field, the poster, the credits, saving, the links that open the tab at one field, and where your details are used.
Details is the one place these facts are changed. Your page's Header reads its title, its details line and its poster from here, and so do your Overview and the project switcher. A festival never does: each festival keeps the copy of your submission it received. See What Details does not change.
Opening Details
- Details in the project's sidebar, under Scorecards. Its address is
/projects/<id>/details. - Edit details, beside the project's title on its Overview.
- Edit project details in the Header block's editor on your project's Page. When the Header is set to the Poster layout and the project has no poster, Add a poster there opens Details at the poster.
- A button named for a missing field on a festival's item, in the bell or under To do on the Overview. See Links that open one field.
Links that open one field
When a festival is asking for something your project does not have, its item can carry a button for the first such field. It opens Details, scrolls to that field and puts you in it:
| The button | Opens Details at |
|---|---|
| Add Tagline | Logline |
| Add Synopsis | Synopsis |
| Add Trailer URL | Trailer link |
| Add Poster | Poster |
| Add Directors, Add Writers, Add Producers or Add Cast | Credits |
The button uses the festival's word, not the tab's. A missing Tagline is filled in as your Logline, and a missing Trailer URL as your Trailer link.
The fields
The tab opens under the heading Details, with every field in one card:
| Field | What it takes |
|---|---|
| Title | Required, up to 200 characters. |
| Format | Film or Screenplay. It is shown here but cannot be changed. |
| Length | For a film, the runtime as minutes and seconds, like 12:47. Minutes can run past 59, like 104:30. For a screenplay, the page count as a whole number from 1 to 10,000, like 112. |
| Year | Four digits, from 1878 to 2200. |
| Genre | Up to 200 characters. You can list several, separated by commas; your page's Header shows the first. |
| Country | Up to 200 characters. |
| Language | Up to 200 characters. |
| Logline | Up to 120 characters. A count at the box's top right, like "48 of 120", turns red past 120. Festivals call this your Tagline. |
| Synopsis | Up to 20,000 characters. |
| Poster | See The poster. |
| Trailer link | A link that starts with https://, up to 2,000 characters. |
| Credits | See Credits. |
Only the Title is required. Every other field can be left empty. Spaces at either end of what you type are dropped when you save.
The poster
- Press Add a poster, or Replace poster when the project has one.
- Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image, up to 40 MB. It is resized before it uploads. The button reads Uploading… while it works, then the new poster shows beside it.
- Press Save changes. The new poster is not kept until you do.
Remove poster takes the poster off. That too waits for Save changes.
Save changes cannot be pressed while a poster is still uploading.
If the image cannot be used, a line under the poster says why:
| The message | What it means |
|---|---|
| "Use a JPG or PNG image." | The file is not a JPG, PNG or WebP image, or could not be read as one. |
| "That image is too large. Use one under 10 MB." | The file is over 40 MB, or is still over 10 MB once resized. |
| "That image did not upload. Try again." | Something went wrong on the way, while uploading or when you saved. Choose the image again. |
Credits
Each credit is one row: a Role, like Director, and a Name.
- Add a credit adds an empty row at the end, with the cursor in its Role.
- The up and down arrows on a row move it one place; ✕ removes it.
- Up to 60 credits. At 60, Add a credit goes away.
- A Role takes up to 80 characters, a Name up to 200.
The roles you type are read. The first credit whose role is Director or Co-director shows under the title on your Overview, and the Directors, Writers, Producers and Cast a festival can be sent are made from the credits whose roles match. See The eight fields.
Saving
- Press Save changes, at the foot of the card. It can be pressed once you have changed something, and reads Saving… while it works.
- The message "Details saved." appears. You stay on Details, with what you saved.
Points to know:
- Nothing is saved while a field needs fixing. Each field with a problem shows its message under it, and the first one is brought into view. The messages update as you type.
- Two tabs or two devices: a save sends only the fields you changed in that tab, so different fields changed in two places both survive. Where both changed the same field, the later save wins.
- Leaving with unsaved changes. Going somewhere else from the sidebar, the project switcher or the menu asks "You have unsaved changes on this page. Leave without saving them?" Closing or reloading the browser tab shows your browser's own warning.
| The message | What it means |
|---|---|
| "Enter a title." | The Title is empty. |
| "Keep this under 120 characters." | The field is longer than it can take. The number is that field's limit. |
| "Enter the runtime as minutes and seconds, like 12:47." | A film's Length is not minutes and seconds. |
| "Enter the page count as a whole number." | A screenplay's Length is not a whole number from 1 to 10,000. |
| "Use a four-digit year." | The Year is not four digits, or is before 1878 or after 2200. |
| "Enter a link that starts with https://" | The Trailer link does not start with https://, or is not a link. |
| "Your details did not save. Try again." | Shown beside the button: something went wrong on the way. Your changes are still in the form. |
| "This project is no longer available." | Shown beside the button: the project is no longer yours. Reload the page. |
Where your details are used
- Your page's Header. The title; the line under it, which reads Short film (a runtime of 40 minutes or less), Feature film, Film (no runtime) or Screenplay, then the length, the year, the first genre and the country, each left out when empty; and the poster, when the Header is set to the Poster layout. A save shows on your page straight away, on the public page too, without publishing. With no poster, a Header set to Poster shows the title alone.
- The rest of your page is the page's own. The first time you open your project's Page, it starts with copies from Details: the Logline as the Header's tagline, the Synopsis in a Text block headed "About", the Trailer link in a Video block when it is a Vimeo or YouTube link (for a film), and the credits whose role includes "director" (or "writer", for a screenplay) in Cast and crew. After that, a change on Details does not reach those blocks: change them on the page. See Editing your page.
- Your Overview and the project switcher show the title, the poster, the format and the length.
- Sending to a festival. Send to festival, and Copy current details into this entry in a festival entry's panel, take their values from Details. See What Details does not change.
- New festival entries join a project by its title and length. See Entries that arrive later.
- A save that changes something keeps a project FilmScorecard made from a festival submission. See When a project goes away by itself.
What Details does not change
-
No festival's copy. Saving here changes nothing a festival holds: not the copy of your submission it judges, and not its record. To bring a festival up to date while it is still taking changes, send what you changed yourself:
- Send to festival under To do on the Overview, or Send N from your project in the bell, when the festival is asking for it. See Sending something to a festival.
- Copy current details into this entry, in the festival entry's panel. See Copying your project's details into an entry.
- The festival's submission page. See Your submission page.
Send to festival and Copy current details never send the title or runtime: the festival keeps the ones you entered with.
-
Your page's blocks, apart from the Header. See Where your details are used.
-
The format. A film stays a film and a screenplay stays a screenplay.
Links from before
Older links still work, in bookmarks and emails alike. A link to a project's old edit mode that named a field opens Details at that field; any other opens the project's Page.
