Contacting us
The contact form at /contact is how you write to the people who run
FilmScorecard: about hosting a festival, judging, a submission or a scorecard,
or anything else. It needs no account, and a person reads every message.
It is not a way to reach a festival. If your question is about your entry, a deadline, a scorecard a festival sent you, or what a festival's staff have decided, write to the festival. FilmScorecard cannot change a festival's records and cannot tell you what the festival has not told you. See Who to write to below.
Where the Contact link is
Contact is the last of four small links, Help · Terms · Privacy · Contact, that appear in the same places all over FilmScorecard. Help opens these guides — worth a look first, since many questions are answered here:
| Where you are | Where the links are |
|---|---|
| The home page, and the Judges and Creators pages | In the white footer at the very foot of the page |
| The Festivals page | In the footer inside the dark registration band at the very foot of the page |
| The log-in screen, the code screen, both sign-up screens, the One question left screen, and the Set up your festival form | At the bottom-left of the screen, under the form |
| The judge profile set-up screens | Under the column, at the foot of the page |
| Your organization's screens | At the bottom of the left navigation, in small grey type. On a narrow window the navigation is a Menu button; the links are at the foot of the menu it opens |
| Your judging screens | The same: the foot of the left navigation, or the foot of the Menu |
| The contact form's own thank-you card | Under the confirmation sentence |
| The Terms of Use, the Privacy Policy and this contact page | In the white footer under the page |
| These guides | Under each guide, below the last section |
Or type the address /contact.
Three screens have no link. The scorecard page and the submission page a
festival sends filmmakers carry none of these links, because the festival is
the right contact for anything on them. Both have a Contact the festival
button for writing to it, unless the festival has no contact address or the
entry was withdrawn or disqualified; you can still type this form's address.
The
"Something went wrong" screen has no links either: use Try again on it,
and if it keeps failing, type /contact and quote the Reference line it
shows. The Page not found screen has a Contact support link of its
own, which opens an email rather than this form; see
Page not found.
The "Trouble logging in" link is gone. Older log-in screens ended with a link that opened an email to support. That link has been replaced by Contact, and this form is now the way to get help with logging in.
The form
The page is headed Contact us. Above it is the same top bar as the Festivals, Judges and Creators pages: the FilmScorecard logo, Festivals, Judges, Creators and Log in. On a phone only the logo and Log in show. There is one line under the heading:
Tell us who you are and what you need. A person reads every message and replies by email.
-
Name. Required, up to 80 characters.
-
Email. Required. This is the address the reply goes to, so use one you read. Capitals and stray spaces do not matter.
-
What is this about. A drop-down with nothing chosen to begin with, and four choices:
Choose When Hosting a festival You run a festival, or want to, and the question is about doing that on FilmScorecard Judging You judge, or want to, and the question is about judging here A submission or scorecard You sent in a submission, or hold a scorecard link or access code. Read Who to write to first: most of these questions belong to the festival Something else Anything the other three do not cover, including anything about your own information (see The Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy) -
Message. Required, up to 2000 characters. The box grows as you drag its corner.
-
Choose Send message. The button greys out while the message goes and its label does not change; there is no spinner.
There is nothing else on the form. No attachments and no phone number. If you need to send us a file, say so in the message and we will reply with a way to do it.
The check that you are a person
The form runs a check from Cloudflare in the background to confirm that a person is sending it, and almost everybody never sees it. Now and then Cloudflare needs you to do something first; when it does, its check appears just above Send message. Do what it asks, then press the button.
The check runs in your browser, so the form needs JavaScript switched on to send anything. If the check stops you, see Messages the form can show.
If you are logged in
Name and Email are filled in for you: the name your account was created with, and the address you log in with. If your account has no name on it, Name is left empty. Both fields stay editable, so if you want the reply somewhere other than your log-in address, change it before you send.
A message sent while logged in is attached to your account, and the people reading it can see which account it came from, even if you changed the Email field. Nothing about your account is changed by sending a message.
If you came from Request AI access
Request AI access, on the Connections tab of your account screen, opens this form with Topic set to Something else and the Message already written: a request to switch on AI access, naming your organization. Nothing is sent until you press the button, and you can change any of it first. See Connections.
After you press the button
The form is replaced, in the same card, by one sentence and the footer's four links — Help, Terms, Privacy and Contact:
Thanks. Your message is with us, and we will reply by email.
That sentence is the whole confirmation. No email is sent to you to say the message arrived, so do not wait for one: if you see this sentence, the message is stored and on its way. The reply, when it comes, arrives at the address you typed, from a person, as an ordinary email you can answer.
To send a second message, reload /contact for a fresh form.
Messages the form can show
Field problems appear in red under the field they belong to. Anything else appears in red just above the Send message button. Nothing you typed is ever cleared: correct the one thing and send it again.
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Enter your name. | The name field is empty. | It is required. |
| That name is too long. | Over 80 characters. | Shorten it. |
| Enter your email address. | The email field is empty. | Type the address you want the reply at. |
| Enter a valid email address. | What you typed is not a complete address. | Include the part after the @. |
| Choose a topic. | The drop-down is still blank. | Pick one of the four. |
| Enter a message. | The message box is empty. | Write the message. |
| Keep this under 2000 characters. | The message is too long. | Shorten it. If it will not fit, send the essentials and say there is more. |
| We couldn't confirm this was sent by a person. Please try again. | The check that you are a person did not pass, or had not finished when you pressed the button. Nothing was stored. | Press Send message again; there is no need to reload. If Cloudflare's check has appeared above the button, complete it first. If this keeps coming back, a browser extension that blocks ads or trackers may be stopping the check from loading: allow it on this site, or try another browser. |
| Too many messages from your network. Try again in an hour. | Five messages have already been sent from your network in the past hour. | Wait an hour and send it again. This counts every message from the network, including your own, so it can bite if several people in one office write at once. |
| We could not send that message. Check your connection and try again. | The message did not reach us. Nothing was stored. | Check your connection and press the button again. If it keeps happening, the fault is on our side. |
With JavaScript switched off, nothing is sent. The check cannot run, so pressing Send message reloads the page with everything you typed still in the form and We couldn't confirm this was sent by a person. Please try again. above the button. Switch JavaScript on and send it again.
What happens to your message
- It is stored on FilmScorecard, with your name, the email address you gave, the topic, the message, and the time. If you were logged in, it is attached to your account. Messages are kept so we can reply and keep a record of the conversation; see the Privacy Policy.
- The people who run FilmScorecard are emailed once, usually within a few seconds of your pressing the button. That email carries what you typed, whether you were logged in, and the address you gave as its reply address, so answering you is a matter of pressing Reply.
- Only the platform's own team reads it. No festival, judge or organization on FilmScorecard can see contact messages, whoever you are and whatever you wrote about.
- Nothing is sent to you until a person replies.
Who to write to
| Your question is about | Write to |
|---|---|
| Getting into your account: no code arrives, the wrong address, a role you picked by mistake | This form, with the address you were trying, the screen you were on, and the exact message you saw. See Log-in problems. |
| Hosting a festival on FilmScorecard, or your beta request | This form. |
| Your own information: a copy of it, a correction, or removing your account | This form, and choose Something else. |
| A submission you sent to a festival: its details, its category, whether it was selected | The festival, with Contact the festival on your submission page. Its staff hold the record; FilmScorecard does not change festival records on a filmmaker's behalf. If you cannot reach the festival, this form can pass the question on. |
| A scorecard a festival sent you: the link, the access code, a purchase | The festival first, with Contact the festival on the scorecard, for what the scorecard says and whether it was released. Payments, receipts and access to a scorecard you have bought are ours: the scorecard names the support address to email for those. For a code that will not work, see Getting into your scorecard; for a purchase, Paying for your scorecard. |
| An invitation to judge, or to help run somebody's festival | Whoever invited you. See Your judging invitation and Your organization invitation. |
| A message to a festival's staff while you are judging for them | Not this form: use Messages in your judging inbox. |
